SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. ?
San Francisco International Airport officials were warning travelers Tuesday morning that lengthy flight delays were possible that day if the gray skies did not clear.
Airport duty manager Doug Yakel said that at 8 a.m., a weather-related ground-delay program went into effect that would slow the arrival rate of incoming flights.
He said that it wouldn't immediately cause a backup, but that if the program remained in effect as the day goes on, delays could be as long as 3.5 hours as the slowdown begins to affect departing flights.
Not all delays would be that long, SFO Spokesman Mike McCarron told KTVU that morning.
